It might have a devilish name but blood oranges are angels when it comes to nutrition. Packed with fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants, this distinctive citrus fruit is worthy of attention. Their rich red hue comes from its high level of anthocyanins—a type of antioxidant. Found in other fruits like blueberries and blackberries, anthocyanins have protective qualities, are anti-inflammatory, and are good for brain health. Create a citrusy salsa with some blood oranges and place over fish or chicken to incorporate bright flavor.

How about dinner with a side of antioxidants and heart health? Add asparagus to your plate and that’s exactly what you’ll get. Fun fact: these green spears got their name from the Greek word asparagos, which means “sprout” or “shoot.” They’re great with just about any protein and can be made on the grill, in the oven, or right on the stove.
