SEPTEMBER 2025

It’s September, and we’re kicking off Back-to-School season! That means routines, after-school activities, sports practices, and more. It’s the month you learn how to juggle again, and we know re-adjusting can be a little bumpy. We’re here to help with plenty of organic options to keep snack packs and lunch boxes full. We’re also cooking up homemade burritos, soups, salads, and sides to make getting dinner on the table fast and simple. And don’t forget to pick up the supplies you need to keep lunch and snack time sustainable and eco-friendly.

With gratitude,

Jerry

Seasonal Produce

Seasonal Fruits

September is the season for apples, and we’ve got a bounty. Perfect for lunch bags and snack pouches, apples are a great source of polyphenols—a group of antioxidants that help fight free radicals. The pectin in apples is also prebiotic, making it good for your gut. Whether you prefer them sweet or tart, apples are prime for picking this month.

Grapes are another September fruit that deserves your attention. Each bite of this juicy fruit contains the antioxidants resveratrol and quercetin, which fight inflammation and may be protective against health issues like heart disease. They’re also rich in vitamins and minerals.

Try combining these juicy fruits on a cheeseboard. Or come in and treat yourself to our deli’s Apple, Walnut, and Grape Salad to savor a seasonal favorite.

Seasonal Veggies

September is the season for an edible superhero. It’s packed with fiber and vitamins, loaded with antioxidants, and filled with bioactive compounds that can help reduce inflammation. This powerhouse vegetable is broccoli, and preparing it is very easy. Roast it in the oven with some olive oil, salt, and pepper. Sauté it with garlic. Steam it as is, or enjoy it raw as a dipper for hummus. Getting produce in season is the perfect time to taste it at its peak.

Good Grains

Being carb smart is great for your health, but it doesn’t mean cutting grains out completely. Instead, be thoughtful about your choices. One tasty option is our deli’s Tabouli Quinoa Salad. Incorporating quinoa into our tangy tabouli means we’ve added a gluten-free, complete protein source, a lot of fiber, and antioxidants into this fresh side dish. The best part, though, is that it’s absolutely delicious. Come in and get some for your family.

Wellness Matters

When was the last time you browsed our Wellness aisle? If it’s been a while, be sure to check it out the next time you’re in. We’ve gotten a number of new supplements, and Steve is happy to discuss them with you!

One company we’re proud to introduce to customers is Kokora. Kokora was founded by Gaia Herbs founder, Ric Scalzo with the goal of advancing pioneering herbal research while elevating the standards for herbal sourcing. Many of their ingredients are cultivated on their organic, regenerative farm in Costa Rica, and each formula is tested for efficacy at the Ric Scalzo Institute of Botanical Research.

Steve is particularly excited about Kokora’s Regenerative Adrenal Support. With all of the stress that the beginning of the school year brings, it’s the perfect time to ensure you’ve got backup when it comes to your adrenal health. Located above your kidneys, adrenals produce hormones like cortisol, aldosterone, adrenaline, as well as our sex hormones. They’re working hard to regulate metabolism, stress, our salt and water balance, and our fight or flight instinct. Kokora’s Regenerative Adrenal Support is formulated with ingredients like Ashwagandha, Holy Basil, Rhodiola, and Schisandra, to help support all that your adrenals do.

*Always check with your doctor before adding any supplement to your diet.

Smoothie of the Month

Back by popular demand, we’re whipping up the Back to Cool Smoothie! This blended spin on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is made with organic almond milk, organic strawberry jam, organic banana, organic cacao nibs, organic peanut butter, and organic frozen strawberries.

Charity of the Month: The Glen Cove Youth Bureau

Founded in 1981, the City of Glen Cove’s Youth Bureau has provided programming for the community’s children. From dynamic opportunities like internships and summer employment, to afterschool programs and summer camps, this organization understands that every child deserves a safe environment outside of school.
