Spring is finally here, and I think we can all agree that we have earned some milder weather. Open your windows and let that fresh springtime air in. It’s finally time to switch out all that winterwear for light sweaters and sunglasses, so you can get yourself outside.
Our environment is also waking up just in time for Earth Day, which we try to celebrate every day here in the store. We’ll admit though, April is one of our favorite months. We’re leaving our doors open, happily prepping our outdoor area for herbs and flowers, and stocking our shelves with eco-friendly spring cleaning products. This is a time of renewal and rebirth, and we are here
for all of it.
We’ll see you in the store!
With gratitude,
Jerry
HAPPY EARTH DAY
On April 22, 2026, we celebrate Earth Day, a day to show support for the environment
and its protection. While the Earth and its needs are given worldwide recognition on this day, we always try to remember the environment in everything we do. From stocking our shelves with organic products and goods made from regenerative farming practices, to selling cleaners and house goods that are earth-friendly, to encouraging shoppers to use reusable grocery bags, the Earth is on our mind every day.
If you’re interested in having less of an environmental impact, try the following:
Go plant-based one day a week. In fact, according to Earthday.org, if you “skipped meat and cheese one day a week with your family, it would be the equivalent of taking your car off the road for five weeks.”
Use your purchasing power to support brands and goods made through regenerative agricultural practices. These practices can help carbon capture, aid in the restoration of our grasslands, and increase water efficiency.
Forget single-use plastics by switching to reusable items like a stainless steel or glass water bottle. Earthday.org notes that “Americans purchase about 50 billion water bottles per year, averaging 13 bottles per month for every person in the U.S.! That means that by using a reusable water bottle, you could save an average of 156 plastic bottles annually.”

SEASONAL PRODUCE
SEASONAL FRUITS
April is the beginning of peak strawberry season. Not only are these berries sweet and
succulent, they are also exceptionally good for you. All that juicy goodness comes with vitamin C, fiber, potassium, and antioxidants. These berries are even better when they’re organic. The Environmental Working Group lists conventional strawberries as one of the fruits and vegetables that retain high levels of pesticide residue, which may lead to the consumption of chemicals, some of which have been linked to cancer, hormone disruption, neurological issues, and more. Whenever you can, go organic!
We all know how great strawberries are on their own, but here’s a creative way to enjoy this superfood:

SEASONAL VEGGIES
Springtime is the perfect season to incorporate new vegetables into your diet, and one nutrient-dense dynamo is asparagus. May and April are peak season for these stalks, so don’t miss out. They’re known for being packed with antioxidants like vitamin E, C, anti-inflammatory flavonoids, and glutathione, which helps fight oxidative stress.

STEVE’S SUPPLEMENT SUGGESTION
We all love the colorful blooms of spring, but we hate the allergies that come with them. Based on customer feedback, Steve recommends Oregon’s Wild Harvest Nettle Quercetin. This gluten, dairy, and soy-free supplement is designed to support your body’s histamine response.
*As with any supplement, consult your doctor before taking.
SMOOTHIE OF THE MONTH: SPRING GLOW
Radiate positive vibes with April’s Smoothie of the Month, the Spring Glow. This fresh, organic, zingy smoothie blends a touch of ginger with mango, pineapple, carrot, and coconut water.

CHARITY OF THE MONTH: NORTH SHORE AUDUBON SOCIETY
Given that Earth Day falls in April, it seemed right to highlight an organization that works tirelessly to celebrate, study, and protect our planet’s wildlife. Since its founding in 1952, the North Shore Audubon Society has been promoting the protection and study of birds in their natural habitat. By conducting public birding walks, providing information and education about the use of native plants, and participating in bird counts, the North Shore Audubon Society has been a leader in wildlife conservation, and we are proud to make them April’s Charity of the Month.

JOIN THE RT TEAM
We’re hiring
We are actively hiring for a Food Service Director. Among other qualifications, we are looking for candidates who are fluent in English and Spanish, have a demonstrated ability to get things done and can prioritize tasks appropriately, have strong leadership and communication skills, and a certification in food safety. If this sounds like you, we encourage you to apply.
WORKING AT RISING TIDE
When it comes to grocery stores, we may be on the smaller side, but what we lack in square footage, we make up for in company culture and teamwork. There’s a reason why our team members know customers’ names, products they prefer, and even what’s going on in their lives. It’s because one of our core hiring principles is finding candidates who are a good match with our culture. Generosity, positivity, and a can-do spirit are some of our top priorities when we hire. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
