We’re turning 50 this month, and I can hardly believe it. I never imagined five decades ago that I would be here today. Some of you have shopped at Rising Tide since the beginning. I’ve seen children grow from toddlers running around the store to adults who now shop for their own families. I’ve witnessed dedicated team members who have been with us for years get married and have children. It’s all been quite remarkable.
Rising Tide’s mission has always been bigger than selling groceries. Our intention was to keep the conversations around health and wellness going. 50 years later, the conversation continues.
Be on the lookout for our in-store ribbon-cutting celebration on June 26th. It’s been a fantastical ride that I’m grateful for every day. Thank you for joining me on the journey.
With gratitude,
Jerry
JUNETEENTH
“Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
On June 19th, we acknowledge and celebrate Juneteenth, commemorating June 19, 1865, when the Union Army arrived in Galveston, TX, and announced that all enslaved African Americans were free.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
This June 21st, we’ll be celebrating all the dads and father figures out there. If grilling is Dad’s go-to, we have everything you need to create a barbecue feast. Whether it’s burgers, hot dogs, steak, pork, chicken, or vegan and vegetarian options, come in and build your menu with the very best ingredients.
SEASONAL PRODUCE
SEASONAL FRUITS
Staying hydrated during the summer is essential, and watermelon, which contains about 92% water, is a great snack to help beat the heat. This summertime fruit can easily go from the dinner table to the dessert course. Great in salads or paired with prosciutto, it’s also an excellent dessert when you slice it up and eat it as is or build treats like a DIY watermelon pizza.

SEASONAL VEGGIES
Zucchini’s subtle, slightly sweet flavor makes it a summertime menu must-have. Its high water content makes it great for hydration. It’s also loaded with both soluble and insoluble fiber and packed with carotenoids and Vitamin C, which can help with inflammation. Make room on your barbecue because grilled zucchini is fabulous on its own, cut into a salad, or sliced into sticks and used as a dipper. Simply brush with the oil of your choice and add salt and pepper to taste.

WELLNESS MATTERS: STAYING SAFE OUTSIDE
TICK PREVENTION
Have you heard that it’s gearing up to be a severe tick season? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Tick Bite Data Tracker, the number of visits for tick bites nationwide hasn’t been this high since 2017. No matter what repellent you use, you can help prevent tick bites further by wearing long sleeves and pants tucked into your socks. Try to stick to light colored clothing to make spotting ticks easier. It’s also helpful to shower immediately after coming indoors. This can wash away any ticks that haven’t attached yet and gives you a chance to spot ticks that have. Put the clothing you wore into the washer right away and then dry them on high heat.
Checking yourself is one of the most important safety tips. Don’t forget your scalp, behind your ears, under your arms, and your groin. Additionally, get someone else to check the areas you can’t see, like your neck, hairline, and ears.

SUN SAFETY
Whether you’re relaxing in the sun, playing outdoor sports, or hanging out outside with friends, it’s vital to remember to apply sunscreen. We’re stocked with several natural sunscreen brands, including Badger. Many of their sunscreens earn a 1 in the Environmental Working Group’s Sunscreen Guide, meaning they’re considered a low hazard. They’re also reef safe and contain many organic ingredients.

STEVE’S SUPPLEMENT SUGGESTION
Swimming, biking, running, and gardening… warmer weather often means getting outside and being active. All too often, that can mean muscle soreness and joint pain. If you’re feeling it, but are looking for a drug-free alternative, Steve recommends Rapid Relief by Metagenics. Designed for five types of soreness, including head and neck tension and muscle, back, and joint pain. Don’t stop your activity; help relieve the pain.
*Speak with your doctor before incorporating any supplement into your diet.
SMOOTHIE OF THE MONTH: ORANGE CREAMSICLE
Inspired by the famous ice pop, our Orange Creamsicle is a rich, flavorful dream. A scoop of vanilla protein powder is blended with organic orange juice, organic almond milk, organic banana, and organic honey. This smoothie might taste like a treat, but the protein will keep your hunger at bay.

CHARITY OF THE MONTH: WILDLIFE CENTER OF LONG ISLAND
What began as a wildlife rescue and rehab operating out of a garage in 1982 became the first professional wildlife hospital and education center on Long Island. These days, this Huntington-based nonprofit provides over 200 outreach and education programs, has rehabilitated and alleviated the suffering of over 2,200 orphaned and injured wild patients, and handles around 10,000 calls to their wildlife hotline each year. It’s a tremendous service to our community that Rising Tide is honored to contribute to.

WORKING AT RISING TIDE
When it comes to grocery stores, we may be on the smaller side, but what we lack in square footage, we make up for in company culture and teamwork. There’s a reason why our team members know customers’ names, products they prefer, and even what’s going on in their lives. It’s because one of our core hiring principles is finding candidates who are a good match with our culture. Generosity, positivity, and a can-do spirit are some of our top priorities when we hire. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
